The Gulfport Community Players perform their main season plays at the Catherine A. Hickman Theater. Although it is named after the Players' founder, it is OWNED and OPERATED by the City of Gulfport. If you have questions about non-Gulfport Community Players events, you must contact the City of Gulfport.

Auditions Oct 30-Oct 31  at the Back Door Theater

Written by Richard Alfieri. Directed by Ron Zietz. This two-character comedy opens as an aging but still formidable woman who hires an acerbic dance instructor to give her lessons in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. Antagonism between a gay man and the widow of a Southern Baptist minister gives way to profound compatibility as they swing dance, tango, foxtrot and cha-cha while sharing more than dance steps. She reveals a closely guarded secret she is terminally ill and he shares his greatest gifts - loyalty and compassion.

Written by Mark Edward Smith. Directed by Olga Kruse. Stern Patriarch Chester Dumbrosky has decided to make amends. Unfortunately, he waited for the day of his "wake" to do so. Lots of angst and laughs as his dysfunctional family tries to heal old wounds. Chester is revealed to be a hard-working, largely well-intentioned, controlling, and emotionally bankrupt father and husband. Simply paying the bills isn't enough. Tell your loved ones that you do in fact love them before it's too late. A play designed to make you think and reflect, The Viewing Room" is very funny with great one-liners.

Auditions April 8-9, 2024 at the Back Door Theater

Written by Paula Vogel. Directed by Stephen Bell. Have you ever visited the house of a friend who turned out to have kids you wished would disappear? And then they did? "And Baby Makes Seven" will take you on that very arc. As Ruth and her pregnant partner, Anna, await the birth of Anna's child (conceived with another partner, Peter) life around the 3-way household is a little strange.  They must rid their apartment of their three imaginary children. A profound and clever comedy with a sweet, irresistible ending.

Auditions May 20-21, 2024 at the Back Door Theater

Various directors and 8 to 10 original one-act plays. The plays selected to be produced are the top finalists, chosen by a play-reading committee of four readers. Each reader in the play reading committee reads each and every play submitted to the competition.
