AUDITIONS: Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
Auditions for "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" will take place Oct 18 & 19th, 7pm at the Backdoor Theater, 1619 49th St S, Gulfport, FL 33707. Director will be Shaun Rice. Rehearsals begin around mid-November. Show runs Jan 14-24 at the Catherine Hickman Theater. All roles open & all welcome. SHOW SUMMARY:
Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia live together and regret missing out on life while caring for their late parents until their famous movie star sister, Masha, arrives unannounced with her much younger boyfriend, Spike and threatens to sell the family home - sparking a weekend of old rivalries, raw nerves, and absurd humor in this award-winning play by Christopher Durang that blends characters and themes from Anton Chekhov's classic works into a modern family dispute.
VANYA – 50s, living in Bucks County. Resigned to his life, more or less, at least compared to Sonia. (must be comfortable performing a 5+ minute uninterrupted monologue)
SONIA – His adopted sister, early 50s, living with him in Bucks County. Discontent, upset, regretful.
MASHA – His sister, 50s, glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.
SPIKE – An aspiring actor, 29 or younger, Masha’s new companion. Sexy, self-absorbed, but otherwise outgoing and friendly. (must be comfortable performing in only underwear)
NINA – Lovely, sincere would-be actress, early 20s, visiting her aunt and uncle next door. Star struck, earnest and energetic.
CASSANDRA – Cleaning lady and soothsayer, any age, any race. She is in touch with the divine
